Carolyn Krysl Hutchinson

Flutist and Piccoloist





Carolyn earned two Bachelor’s degrees in Flute Performance and Music Education with a minor in voice at the University of Wyoming in 1986.  She received the Master of Music degree at the University of Alabama in 1988.  After teaching at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Mrs. Hutchinson relocated to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 1990 and established her studio while pursuing post-graduate studies at the University of North Texas.  She and her husband Scott moved to Missouri City, Texas in 1995.

In addition to her teaching schedule, Mrs. Hutchinson is the Solo Piccoloist and Flutist of the Galveston Symphony and Houston Sinfonietta.  She is the founder of the Sugar Land Flute Choir.  Mrs. Hutchinson was selected by audition to be a performing member of the Houston Tuesday Musical Club and served as Program Co-Chairman 2016-2018.

As a member of the Houston Flute Club, Mrs. Hutchinson was President and Festival Chairman from 1995-1998 and will resume duties for the April 2023 festival.  She was a finalist for the HFC Byron Hester Flute Competition in 2003 and has been honored as the Outstanding Flutist in the Teacher/Professional division. She is also a member of the Texas Flute Society, having served as Festival Chairman in 1990.  Mrs. Hutchinson has been a long-time member of the National Flute Association and was selected by audition as a flutist in the Professional Flute Choir at the 1996 convention is New York City.

Mrs. Hutchinson’s students have consistently achieved superior ratings at Solo & Ensemble and have been named Outstanding Flutist at the Houston Flute Club and Texas Flute Society Flute Festivals.  They have achieved continued success at All-Region in the Greater Dallas and Houston areas, and have been made All-State, placing them in the top thirty-five flutists out of the approximately 2000 that auditioned,  Several of her students have been awarded music scholarships, completed their collegiate studies, and have successful careers in music.

Carolyn is an active member of Providence Presbyterian Church in Sugar Land, has been married to Scott for 28 years, and has a daughter, who is grown and flown.
